 ’s new Director of Music conducts his debut concert with the Orchestra o
 f the Restoration. Opening with Mendelssohn’s famous and brooding concer
 t overture\, the orchestra will then showcase top prize winners from the l
 ast Nottingham Young Musician of the Year competition as soloists. Instrum
 ental winner\, Kylia\, can be heard in Tournier’s colourful and enchanti
 ng Fairyland for harp and strings\, and brass finalist Joshua is the soloi
 st in Strauss’ heroic first horn concerto.\n \nWe also celebrate the rem
 arkable music of Louise Farrenc\, performing her brilliant third symphony 
 to mark the 150th anniversary of her death in 1875. This symphony has been
  described by Tom Service as being “as impressively energetic and struct
 urally satisfying as any of Mendelssohn’s or Schumann’s”\, full of w
 onderful music that communicates her “uniquely expressive and significan
 t voice that needs to be recognised and heard.”
