DESCRIPTION:All welcome at our Wassail Service this afternoon\, Sunday 26 
 January at 3pm.  Due to the forecast bad weather\, the service will be hel
 d in church.  We have heritage apple saplings to represent the orchard. \n
 \nThe word Wassail originates as a borrowing from an Old Norse salutation 
 and it literally means “be in good health” or “be fortunate”.  To 
 “go Wassailing” is an ancient tradition involving a blessing of the ap
 ple trees in an orchard.\n\nThis is a time of the year when farmers and gr
 owers are planning what crops to plant and where they should be planted. T
 raditionally churches also celebrated “Plough Sunday” in January\, a t
 ime to bless the plough and to remember those who work on the land.\n\nWe 
 hope you will enjoy this service with a difference\, rejoicing in God’s 
 great bounty.
