 ur village.\n\nAs part of Heritage Open Days 2026\, we celebrate Local H
 istories by highlighting remarkable individuals connected to Ashtead who 
 are laid to rest here\, alongside a special Festival Service of Evensong
  celebrating our patron saint\, Giles\, with words from the 1662 Book of
  Common Prayer and music reflecting centuries of worship. \n\nThose reme
 mbered in St Giles' churchyard include photographic pioneer James Cadet
 t\, notable industrialists and community figures\, and decorated servicem
 en such as Albert 'Smiler' Marshall—stories that trace Ashtead's journ
 ey from rural village to a place shaped by innovation and industry. \n\nY
 ou are warmly invited to explore the church and grounds from 2–7pm on S
 unday 13 September: \n\nDiscover local stories through a display of histo
 rical artefacts \n\nJoin a guided walk of the historic churchyard \n\nTr
 y bell ringing in the 16th-century tower \n\nEnjoy a family-friendly scav
 enger hunt \n\nAttend the Special Festival Evensong at 6pm (all welcom
 e\; guest singers may join the choir by pre-booking HERE.) \n\nRefreshmen
 ts available throughout the day. \n\nWhether drawn by local history or si
 mply seeking a peaceful afternoon\, St Giles' offers a unique glimpse in
