Jesus, seated at his Last Supper with his apostles, before his betrayal and execution, wants to drive home his central teaching: it's all about love! And, breaking with usual rabbi (teacher) - disciple (learner) protocol, he announces that he actually values them as friends. Friends share what is really on their hearts. Jesus has done that with them, and now they are to do that for each other. As they demonstrate the depth of their love, both for each other and for God, others will be drawn, too; and the Church will be established on grounds of love, rather than duty. So how do we, as Jesus' disciples today, learn to live that out in our service towards each other?
