DESCRIPTION:Visitors will receive a warm welcome to this Grade II listed c
hurch\, dating to the 11th-15th century. There will be an opportunity to v
isit the bell-ringing chamber\, ring out the bells and see the 200-year-ol
d clock. Registers held in the church and liturgical vestments will be on
display. There are various artefacts stretching back many years around the
building.\n\nThere is also a new display about John Metcalf (aka ‘Blind
Jack of Knaresborough’) who is buried here. A nearby road (the A658 sou
thern bypass between A61 Buttersyke Bar roundabout and the A661 Kestrel ro
undabout) has been named the ‘John Metcalf Way’ in recognition of his
pioneering work. The display includes a copy of the Burial Register for th
e church. Should you then go and visit his grave\, marked with an appropri
ate ‘white stick’\, you may just be able to make out the rather long i
nscription\, with what might be the wrong date for his death - we may neve
r know the truth?!\nCome and find out who he was and visit his grave. Ch
ildren's activities and refreshments will also be available.
