DESCRIPTION:The 'Battlefield window' features amazing medieval glazing ori
ginally from Battlefield Church. The church had an extensive scheme of gla
ss including figures of locally popular saints such as Chad\, George\, Nic
holas and John the Baptist. The glass dates from the mid-15th C and is an
example of the late International Gothic Style. Excitingingly it is work
of the celebrated glass painter John Thornton (who was responsible for the
phenomenal Great East Window in York Minster). Thornton probably ran glas
s workshops in Coventry and York. Our glass almost certainly stems from th
e Coventry workshop.  The glass and painted detail\, and the surrounding
stonework\, are in very poor condition and require conservation work as a
matter of urgency. We now have a Faculty allowing us to proceed with the w
ork\, unfortunately\, overall this may take as much as £100\,000 inc VAT!
We have applied for some funds and are applying for more - but without us
being able to put some of the funds into the pot we may not get any publi
c funds to add to it! Please join us to find out how you can help - and wh
at we hope to offer in return!
