DESCRIPTION:The Christmas Story is retold for all the family with a collec
 tion for the Children's Society.\n\nThe story of the Children’s Society 
 began in 1881. Edward Rudolf\, a young Sunday school teacher and civil ser
 vant in South London\, saw the effects of poverty on children and decided 
 to do something about it.\nWhen two young boys failed to turn up for his S
 unday school\, he went to look for them and was shocked to find them beggi
 ng for food on the streets. Their father had died\, leaving their mother s
 truggling to bring up seven children under the age of 11.\nRudolf soon rea
 lised this was not a unique story and there were countless young people li
 ving in poverty. At that point\, he decided to dedicate his life to improv
 ing the lives of children who had it toughest. This was the beginning of T
 he Church of England Children's Society. Christingle was established by th
 e Moravian Church in 1747 as a symbol of Christ's light and love. The Chil
 dren's Society introduced it to the Church of England in 1968.
