News from our churchwardens

Latest news from the Parish of Goring by Sea. 10 th. June 2020.

The opening of church buildings for private prayer

You will have heard on the news that from Monday 15th. June places of worship can be open for

individual prayer. We have today (Weds 10th. June) received detailed guidance and instruction

from the Diocese of Chichester, which we will now pray about and consider our Parish response to

this relaxation of the rules. We will need time to carry out risk assessments and prepare the

churches for opening if we believe and are guided to this as the right decision. Bishop Martin has

written to say

“I was glad when they said unto me: We will go into the house of the Lord.”

(Psalm 122.1)

We should welcome the decision, announced on 7 June by the Communities Secretary,

Robert Jenrick that allows church buildings to be open for individual prayer from Monday

15 June.

However, this announcement will also cause anxiety to some people, clergy and

laity alike. It is essential that access to our church buildings is a joyful

experience, not the source of fear. We will approach this in different ways and we

must respect the differences we bring.”

Please pray with us for guidance on this matter. We hope to give further details and our response

to this in next week’s newsletter.

Traidcraft News

Some time ago Janice wrote in an edition of Goring

Parish News about Traidcraft’s desire to reduce its

use of plastics. In this Summer’s edition of the

Traidcraft catalogue they tell us that they have

replaced the air-filled plastic “pillows” with paper

void-filler in their parcels, paper tape instead of

plastic tape (these two replacements save 2.410

tonnes of plastic), and all 15000 DPD staff, the

company that make the deliveries to Traidcraft

customers, are given a refillable water bottle saving

an estimated 3.75 million plastic bottles from being

Until the end of June, if you buy two packs of either Double Chocolate chunk cookies or half coated

chocolate shortbread fingers, Traidcraft will donate two packs of the same to Fareshare, a charity

that takes good quality surplus food from across the food industry and redistributes it to almost

11000 frontline charities and community groups nationally. I am sure Kate will be only too pleased

to take your order.

The gardening team is back in action.

As we explained last week the team is back in action and will be working again next week. Thank

you to those of you who have already offered and donated plants. We still need more so remember

if you have been splitting and or thinning shrubs and perennials (particularly drought resistant

plants) in your garden we would love any spare ones. Please e-mail the parish office

([email protected]) or Gill Keevill ([email protected]) and we will arrange
