Latest News from the Wardens

31 Jul 2020, 4 p.m.

Latest news from the Parish of Goring by Sea. 30th. July 2020.

St Mary’s Church is open for prayer every day from 10 am to 3 pm.

Services in St Mary’s Church this Sunday

09.00 Said Eucharist. Book of Common Prayer.

11.00 First Sunday of the Month. Said Eucharist. Common Worship. (Also live streamed via Facebook)

The first Sunday in the month has traditionally been focused on all age worship. The present restrictions make it impossible to return to the format we know and love. However this service will be a little different. It will begin with the showing of the short pre recorded all age worship service that will also be streamed on Facebook at 10.00 am.

See details below. We really hope some families will be able to attend this service. Unfortunately at the moment we can’t have any children’s activities and so if attending they will have to sit with their parents. Whilst children can’t move about the church in the way they are used to, parents should not be concerned if they find they are getting restless and children can be taken outside into the gardens. We will provide colouring sheets but it would be helpful if children could bring their own colour pencils

Please refer to arrangements for attending worship on the website https://goringbyseaparish.org/ and in previous editions of this newsletter. You will still need to register each week, so that we can keep a register of names for 21days and avoid turning any one away. However if you plan to attend the same service regularly you can ask to be put on ‘repeat weekly’ but please let us know if you are not able to attend at anytime. Register at [email protected] or if you do not have e-mail by telephoning the Parish Office 01903 709163 and leaving a voicemail message. You will receive confirmation that you are registered for the service.

Services in August - As well as the above

St Laurence’s Patronal Festival – Monday 10th August at 7.30 p.m.

There will be a said Eucharist in St Laurence’s church, which also will be live streamed. A service register has been opened ([email protected] or 01903 709163). There will be a need for social distancing and numbers will be restricted but we are working hard to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend.

“The Way In” - Sunday 16th August

To maintain our services and online presence and keep our churches open we need YOUR HELP. Below are some of the ways that you can help, please think and pray about how God is calling you to serve in this parish, no offer of help is too small.

Join the Audio Visual team.

We are now live streaming at least one service a week from our churches. We know that we need to improve the quality of these streams particularly the sound and we are in the process of developing our technical know how and equipment to do this. If you would like to help with the filming and other audiovisual (AV) tasks please let Gill Keevill know: [email protected] You do not need to have any experience of working with AV equipment, although if you do that would be fantastic, just a willingness to learn.

Church cleaning

To maintain our services and keep the church open for prayer, we still need more volunteers to help. Please contact Janice Lelliott by email: [email protected] or telephone 01903 504384 for more details. Even one day a month would help, but of course if you can offer more that would be even better.

Readers, Intercessors

We are very grateful to those who have offered to read the lessons or lead our prayers as we have reopened for worship. Some who have done these things before lockdown may feel unable to do so at the moment. If you are returning, or have already returned, to Church and would like to offer your services, please contact Keith (Reader) by email: [email protected] or telephone 01903 504384.

Sides people are also needed for upcoming services on the 23rd and 30th August at 11.00 a.m. Please contact Janice Lelliott, details above.

A thank you from Sylvia and Roger

“Sylvia and Roger would like to thank everyone who came to our wedding, so lovely to see so many friends gathered in the churchyard after our wedding who were unable to come into the church.

A big thank-you to everyone for your generosity, we raised over £2,500 for Imara Uganda Education fund.

Sylvia and Roger xx”

If you would like to make a donation in celebration of their marriage you can still do this by sending a cheque payable to Imara Uganda Education Fund, to Mrs B Webber, 6 Beamer Court, Grand Ave, Worthing West Sussex. BN11 5BS

Pastoral visits. Please let Fr. Keith or the Wardens know if you have a personal pastoral concern or may know of somebody in need.

N.B. Fr. Keith will be on leave from the 3rd – 9th August, if you have an urgent matter during this time please contact Gill Keevill on 07715120841.
