New Services in St Mary’s and St Laurence’s Churches and online

We are delighted to announce some new services beginning in October and November.

Weekday Eucharist. Common Worship

In St Laurence’s Church each Thursday at 10.00 a.m. from 8th October 2020

All Age Worship.

Sunday 1st November 2020 at 10.00 a.m. (replacing the 11.00 am Eucharist)

We are really missing our children and their families. In order to facilitate their return to church within the present restrictions, we will be trialing a shorter child friendly service on the 1st. November. Having re thought how we can worship with as many of our usual features, for example craft activities, we will be providing all children with a take away activity bag. This will include colouring and crafts to do during the service (seated in the pew) and or take away; and because the children told us they like this about St Mary’s – a biscuit! This shorter service will have music and the very popular animation cartoon gospel. Children will also be invited to read and say prayers with their adult family members. We will continue to adhere to strict social distancing and family bubbles will be invited to Book a Pew. More details will be given nearer the time, but its not too early to - BOOK YOUR PEW!

From the 7th October onwards:

Online Morning Prayer will be said on a Wednesday morning at 10.00 a.m. via Zoom (this replaces the online Thursday Morning Prayer)

Harvest Festival

There will be a Harvest Festival Focus on Sunday 4th October at both Eucharist services. Please double your efforts to bring items for Family Support Work to these services. They are low across all items in particularly, soup, tinned meat, tinned vegetables and tinned fruit.

The Annual Church Parochial Meeting (APCM) of the Parish of Goring by Sea. Sunday 11th October at 12.15 pm

The APCM postponed from 27th April 2020, will be held in St Mary’s Church at 12.15 p.m. following the 11.00 am Eucharist on Sunday 11th October 2020. The meeting will also be available via Zoom. Due to restrictions you will need to register to attend this meeting.

We need to elect the following: 2 Churchwardens (elected annually), 2 Assistant Wardens (St Laurence's Church) (elected annually), 2 PCC casual vacancies until APCM 2021, 3 PCC members, 4 Deanery Synod members.

Nomination forms will be made available in St Mary’s church at services, and are attached to this newsletter. Please return electronic copies to the Parish Office and hard copies to the Parish Office by hand or post ([email protected])

As well as the above we are looking to appoint a new PCC Secretary and a Safeguarding Officer (this post can be shared). These posts are vacant as Janet Annis and Alison Evans will both be stepping down from their roles at the APCM, after a number of years of hard work and faithful service. We thank them both for all they have given to the Lord in service to the Parish. Please consider prayerfully if the Lord may be calling you to this service. If you want to know more about the roles please speak to Janet, Alison or the Wardens.

Parish Electoral Roll will need to be revised this month in readiness for the APCM. Anyone who is not already on the Roll and wishes to be included, please contact the Parish Office

Many thanks for your continuing prayers for the Syrian refugees who have made their home in this area. Just now your prayers would be appreciated for Syrian children returning to school and nursery after the long Covid-19 break.

I am also writing to ask your prayers for a new initiative being launched by W4R this month. It is a Language Cafe aimed at helping refugees and asylum seekers improve their English language skills. Please pray that publicity for the language cafe will be effective and that news of it will reach all those who could benefit from it.

Pastoral visits. Please let Fr. Keith or the Wardens know if you have a personal pastoral concern or may know of somebody in need.

God Bless, Gill, Janice, Ruth and Geoff.
