St Mary's, Stoughton will be open for Private Prayer on Sunday 28 June from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. We are delighted to welcome those who wish to visit to pray on their own or with their household to attend the church on Sunday afternoon. Please note that, at present, the church is only permitted to open for prayer, not for tourism or general visiting. We hope this will come later.
Measures have been put in place to manage any risks involved and a couple of people will be in attendance to welcome you and explain how to keep everyone safe. A full risk assessment has been undertaken but you are not advised to attend if you are in any of the vulnerable categories and should not enter the church if you are displaying any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19. Attendance is at your own risk.
We are planning our first live service since March on Sunday 5th July at 10 am. This will be a service of Morning Prayer and will take place at Stoughton as it will be easier to manage social distancing etc in our largest church which will already have been opened for private prayer. Parts of the service will be uploaded onto YouTube and Facebook later in the day for those who are unable to attend.
We are awaiting detailed guidance from the national church and Diocese of Chichester on managing services. It is likely that this guidance will forbid any singing during services as this would spread droplet infection.
Although initially services will be taking place only at Stoughton, they are very much Octagon-wide services and the Rector would be grateful if you could let her know if you are happy to read or help with the services in any way.
