It really is a challenging time for teachers, parents and children and lack of access to technology and broadband is impacting many families in our community. We shall be reaching out to our other local primary schools this week along with continuing our support for LCEPS so do please get in touch if you have anything you think you can donate. New Curate I am really pleased to finally be able to announce that Liz Piki, who is currently on placement with us as an ordinand (trainee vicar) will be staying on with us following her ordination to serve her curacy. Curacy is the first post you take after ordination training and usually lasts around three years so we really look forward to supporting Liz grow in her calling as an ordained minister. Liz and her family moved to Loughborough over the Christmas break in readiness for her curacy beginning later on this year. In the meantime Liz continues to be part of the All Saints team whilst writing her essays and studying at St Mellitus college. There is a picture of Liz and some of her family attached about whom Liz writes:'I am pleased to be introducing my family to you all. It is, indeed, a great privilege to be based at All Saints and Holy Trinity, thank you all for welcoming me to the parish with warmth. I am married to France and we have four children, one son and 3 three daughters. France is an Armed Forces veteran, who served with the Royal Logistics Corps in Aldershot, Hampshire. He now works as a Mental Health Nurse. Bradley our eldest son is 25 years old, he lives in Scotland and has a 15 month-old daughter Camilla, our delightful granddaughter! Belinda is 20 years old, Gabriella 14 years and Danielle 9. I am also pleased to be supported by my five siblings, four sisters, a brother, nephews and nieces, most of whom live in Leicestershire.'Called Together ServiceOn the 23rd January at 11.00am seven new Readers and one new Pastoral Assistant will be licensed by Bishop Martyn in the annual service that celebrates the incredible variety and contribution of lay ministers to the Diocese of Leicester. Hi Friends,Revd Wendy is on annual leave this week, so I get to write the bulletin. I hope you are all safe at home and finding new ways of keeping busy and positive. The building is closed but the church continues...Can you help?Do you have a working lap top or tablet that you no longer need? If so, Loughborough Church of England School would like to give it a new home. There are children who don't have access to the technology they need to learn from home and your old devices could be the answer. If you have a laptop or tablet to donate please get in touch with the church office or one of our church wardens. Thank you.January Sunday Morning Worship and FellowshipFor the next few weeks we shall offer worship on Zoom at 10.30am on Sunday mornings. This will be a half hour service led in the style of Diddy Disciples. It will not be live streamed so the only way to participate will be to be on the call, either on your computer/smartphone/tablet or you can listen by dialling the phone number from your normal phone. I do hope that everyone will feel able to attend regardless of age, often when we allow ourselves to see through the eyes of children we find a richness of the kingdom of God that we might otherwise miss. At the end of the service the call will stay open for another half hour for a general social catch up for those who wish to stay. The Zoom details which will be the same all month are:https://leccofe.zoom.us/j/92241891261?pwd=NHRIdW1LUVF4L0RCWm1nMUExTHN6QT09Meeting ID: 922 4189 1261 Passcode: 167625Or dial: 020 8080 6592Meeting ID: 922 4189 1261Alternatively, you might like to watch the Sunday service from the Church of England, details here https://www.churchofengland.org/news-and-media/join-us-church-online/weekly-online-services/worship-home-epiphany-embrace-middle, available from 9.00am or listen to Sunday Worship on Radio 4 at 8.10am and then join the Zoom call at 11.00am to catch up with others.January Sunday Evening WorshipThere will be three Sunday evening services live streamed on our YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNymtzHV8G_EfZprXch9RIg at 6pm:This Sunday evening Evensong is led by Martyn Davison with members of the adult choir.Eco ChurchEven while we are away from the church building we can work towards our silver award by becoming more environmentally aware at home. This month we are preparing for the RSPB Great Garden Bird Watch 29th -31st January. Dear Friends,Temporary Church Building ClosureIt is with a heavy heart that myself and the Churchwardens, with the support of the PCC, have taken the decision to close our church building for private prayer and communal worship from immediate effect. (December 31st 2020)This is in response to the Tier 4 classification for Leicestershire. Although this is not a mandatory requirement from government, and we are confident we have had covid secure practices in place, we feel the right thing to do now is support the wider message to stay at home wherever possible. Given the uncertainties of the new strain of coronavirus and the current pressure on our NHS we feel this is the most sensible course of action at this time. We shall review this decision by the end of January. Worship will continue through January online with daily prayer on Facebook, Sunday mornings will be an invitation to gather on Zoom and twice a month there will be a live streamed service on Sunday evenings. Further details of what this will look like will be sent out in due course. I will continue to send out a regular weekly email bulletin and the pastoral team will be in touch by phone with anyone who would appreciate a regular call or who doesn't have access to email. Do please get in touch if you would appreciate a phone call during this time, either by emailing me or contacting the parish office:office@allsaintsloughborough.org.uk 01509 217029I am so grateful for all the work everyone has put in to allowing us to open safely over the last few months and for the ways in which people have reached out to support one another during this challenging time. Please stay in touch, reach out for support in prayer and fellowship and hold fast to the message of Christmas that God dwells with us and we have seen his glory in the face of Jesus. May you know the presence and peace of Christ in the weeks ahead.Revd Wendy PS I shall be doing my final Santa Run this afternoon at 1pm running whatever distance is the final total on our Christmas Appeal at noon today.
