The PCC have taken the decision to open the church for the bi-weekly service of Morning Prayer. Having closed the doors at the beginning of March due to the Covid 19 pandemic, it was a joyeous occasion at 11am on Sunday 2nd August to once again be able to greet each other (in a socially distanced manner) in our lovely church.
Mike Oates, a Licenced Reader in the Four Saints Benefice and a village resident, led us in a quiet but hugely uplifting service. The opportunity to pray together, to listen to readings and to share in an act of worship felt like a big step forward in moving towards what is increasingly described as 'the new normal'. Singing was not permitted but the space left in the service was filled with some beautiful recordings, thus allowing for periods of reflection.
Huge thanks is due to the Church Warden, Valerie, along with Di and Jackie, for cleaning the church thoroughly during the week prior to the service, and for making sure that the congregation for that first service were not sharing the space with liberal scatterings of Bat droppings.
All in all we felt like we were coming home, and our church, both building and community, were alive once more. Thanks be to God.
