DESCRIPTION:A choral service with an augmented choir will be held at 6.30p
 m on Sunday 1st February to celebrate Candlemas. There will be readings an
 d hymns and then the service will conclude with the singing of the ancient
  plainsong setting of Compline.\nCandlemas is an ancient festival which ma
 rks the midpoint of winter\, halfway between the shortest day and the spri
 ng equinox. It commemorates the purification of Mary forty days after the 
 birth of her son Jesus. It is also the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus 
 Christ in the Temple\, based on the account in Luke 2:22-40. It was the Je
 wish custom forty days after birth of a boy\, to take him to the temple to
  be presented to God by his thankful parents. It is also officially the en
 d of the Christmas cycle.\nDo join us for this contemplative service.
