Church of England Diocese of Southwark St. Paul with St. Mark, Deptford

Churchyard - January Opening Times

11am - 4pm approximately

*The opening times are under review, depending on updated advice, & public behaviour in the churchyard and on the church stonework.*

We are sorry that the churchyard is mainly closed at this time for reasons of public health and safety during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Parochial Church Council, (the Trustees), made this decision following the legally required risk assessment, and in order to provide a COVID-19 Secure zone around the church during the current pandemic. The churchyard gates are the point at which we are creating this secure environment for those who attend the church for Mass, or any other purpose. This decision remains under review. Please bear with us, and be patient at this time.

The churchyard is a holy and peaceful place, and a cemetery. It can sometimes also be a challenging space. The pandemic has reduced our volunteer capacity as our church members, who generously give their time, are under the same pressures of lockdown and coronavirus as everyone else.

The exceptions being:

· Access to the church for the Sunday Parish Mass, and any other services.

· Maintenance and upkeep.

· Anyone wishing to arrange a visit to a Memorial or place of burial in the Churchyard, for example on an anniversary to lay flowers. Please contact the Rector to arrange a mutually convenient time.

Phased re-opening

It is our clear intention to re-open the churchyard when the pandemic emergency is over and the Government restrictions are lifted. This will accompany a return to the pattern of worship and service at the church before the pandemic.

As an interim measure, the churchyard will be open every Saturday and Sunday in January from 11am - 4pm, approximately.
