DESCRIPTION:In this holy season of Eastertide\, we find ourselves immersed
in the Acts of the Apostles\, witnessing the vibrant life of the early Ch
urch as it flourished through the power of the Holy Spirit\, the breaking
of bread\, and a profound commitment to prayer. \nOn Sunday 17th May at 4:
30 pm\, I invite you to join us at St James the Great\, Colchester\, to pa
rticipate in that same apostolic tradition at our Service of Healing and R
enewal.\nI am particularly delighted to welcome back Fr Peter Walker\, for
mer Parish Priest\, who will join me in leading this afternoon of devotion
.\nThis liturgy offers a significant opportunity for each person to seek a
nd receive prayer for their specific needs\, finding strength in the share
d life of our community. Following the Liturgy of the Word and a sermon\,
we shall move outside to the South side of the church for the Sprinkling o
f Holy Water. This water\, drawn from the Holy Well at the Shrine of Our L
ady of Walsingham\, is a vital element of our rite—a sign of our desire
for interior purification and a renewal of our baptismal identity in Chris
t.\nIn obedience to the scriptural mandate to pray over the sick\, we shal
l offer the Laying on of Hands and Sacred Unction. Those seeking restorati
on are invited to be anointed with Holy Oil\, consecrated by the Bishop of
Richborough at the Chrism Mass. \nThis anointing serves as an efficacious
means of grace\, bringing the strengthening presence of the Holy Spirit t
o both soul and body.\nOur devotion culminates in Exposition and Benedicti
on. As we kneel before Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar\, we
abide by the theology of St Thomas Aquinas\, venerating the memorial of th
e Lord’s Passion. In this sacred encounter\, the mind is filled with gra
ce\, and we receive a pledge of the glory to come.\nThe St James’ Singer
s\, under the direction of Philip Prior\, will enrich our worship with a m
agnificent selection of hymnody and choral music:\nHymns: There’s a Wide
ness in God’s Mercy\, Lord\, we come to ask Your healing\, and Be still
for the presence of the Lord.\nAnthems: The polyphonic beauty of Tallis’
s If ye love me and Stanford’s O for a closer walk with God.\nOrgan Volu
ntary: The service will conclude with the reflective depth of Master Talli
s’s Testament by Herbert Howells.\nAll are welcome to enter this sacred
space\, to rest in the presence of our Lord\, and to be renewed by the hol
 y mysteries of His Church.\nFr James McCluskey\nParish Priest\, St James t
