DESCRIPTION:This year we have two Lent Groups\, both on the same theme\, t
he ‘Instruments of the Passion’. These are the objects associated wit
h the betrayal\, trial and crucifixion of Christ – the cross\, the crown
of thorns\, the nails\, the spear that pierced his side\, the sponge soak
ed in sour wine (or vinegar\, essentially the same thing)\, Jesus’ seaml
ess robe that the soldiers diced for\, the dice themselves\, and so on\, \
n\n I’m very grateful to an old friend of mine from Witham\, Vikki Zarb\
, who is leading the groups with me. Vikki is a retired classics teacher\,
fluent in Latin & Greek\, with a knowledge of the ancient world that I ca
n only envy.\n\nThe groups will run for 5 weeks\, up to the last week of M
arch\, the week before Holy Week. They’ll be quite informal and will fo
cus on the ‘instruments’ and how they’re portrayed in the gospel acc
ounts of the Passion. We’ll give ourselves some time to reflect on how l
ooking at the Passion in this way changes our understanding of this story
that’s so central to our faith. \n\nDo feel free to contact Simon for mo
re information. \nRevd. Canon Simon Garwood      \nEmail simon
