 d of Clairvaux\, abbot\, mystic\, co-founder of the Knights Templar and a 
 leader in monastic reform of the Benedictine order through the Cistercian 
 order.  In 1130 \, when Pope Innocent II had to fight for his legitimacy o
 ver the anti-pope Anacletus II\, St Bernard was an important supporter of 
 Pope Innocent and his legitimacy.  Bernard was canonised by Pope Alexander
  III and in 1830 he was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius VIII.
