 oughout the Old and New Testaments and to this day. \n\nThe Gospel narrati
 ves of the temptation in the wilderness provide a context for the season o
 f Lent and are central to our understanding of Jesus.  Matthew's account s
 uggests the Devil is persuasive\, but Jesus responds with confident answer
 s. To be fully human Christ must be tempted as we are\; like him\, we can 
 find guidance and strength in a thorough understanding of scripture.
