DESCRIPTION:Family Communion for Trinity Sunday: celebrant the Revd Adetol
 a Badejo.\n\nFirst reading: Isa 40: 12-17\, 27-31\nGospel: Matthew 28: 16-
20\n\nTaken together\, our readings this morning contrast the magnitude an
d power of God as described in Isaiah 40\, with the human form of Jesus Ch
rist. Jesus tells his disciples in Matthew 28 that all authority has been
given to him. The verses in Isaiah 40 about the scale of the Lord contextu
alise the Gospel verses. A God so great and everlasting took the form of a
human in order that we might be saved.\n\nBoth readings give encouragemen
t to the believer. In Isaiah we read that "those who hope in the Lord will
renew their strength" (Isa 40: 31) and in Matthew Jesus tells his discipl
es that he will always be with them\, "to the very end of the age" (Matt 2
8: ...20).\n\nJesus also gives his commission to the disciples to make dis
ciples of and baptise all nations\, a command which Christians around the
world today are a direct result of. The above painting is part of The Life
of Jesus Mafa project - A series of paintings dramatically depicting scen
es from the Gospel\, re-imagined as scenes from a Cameroonian village. The
aim of this project was to help people in Northern Cameroon to teach from
the Bible in a way that connected with their community. This is just one
example of how Jesus' Great Commission is alive today.
