Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford St. Barnabas, Woodford

27 DECEMBER 2020 HOLY FAMILY, 6:30 PM - NINE LESSONS & CAROLS

The Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols was originally drawn up by F. W. Benson, Bishop of Truro and later Archbishop of Canterbury, and was first used on Christmas Eve 1880 in the wooden shed which then served as Truro Cathedral. It was modified in 1918 for use in the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, by the recently-appointed Dean, Eric Milner-White, and this is the version so familiar today.

The story of the Incarnation is told in the nine Lessons which are interspersed with Carols and Hymns.
