Holy Saturday is the last day of Holy Week and ends the season of Lent. Easter vigil services in the United Kingdom on Holy Saturday can be traced back to the early years of Christianity during the time of the Roman empire. One tradition that still has symbolic significance today is lighting candles during the Easter vigil services. Please have a candle ready as we welcome Christ’s ‘New Light’ in to our lives.

St Andrew

An oasis of Peace, Calm and the living spirituality of Christ in the vibrancy of Handsworth

Welcome to St Andrew’s Church. We Believe that a church is more than a building or a set of activities, it is a collection of people. St Andrew’s Church is a multi-racial community of Christians made up of all ages – toddlers to teenagers, young adults to seniors. Our website contains information on ‘Who we are’, Our services and events.

You will find copies of sermons preached, newsletters, our bi-monthly magazine, special events and features. St Andrew’s is the closest church to the Birmingham City University’s Hamstead Campus, and it belongs to the Handsworth Group of Church of England Churches.
