Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity - 13th September 2020 - Barbara’s Sending forth to Ordination
Today is the last Sunday that Barbara is an authorised Minister. For, all being well, she will be ordained a deacon next Saturday by the Bishop of Birmingham. In more ordinary times, I would have invited you all to come and lay hands on Barbara and pray for her as she leaves us today. Instead as a safer alternative, I ask you to lift your hands in prayer for Barbara along with me as I share words of Scripture for Barbara’s sending.
Our Prayer: Barbara - as you go from here to your ordination, Go with our blessing, the blessing of the people you are called to serve. Go in the name of Christ, our saviour. Go as God’s messenger and servant in the world. Go with these words of Scripture resounding in your heart and soul and mind and body. Go with words set for today in Psalm 103 v 1-14.
Barbara - Praise the Lord, with your soul; with all your inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, with your soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases, who redeems our lives from the pit and crowns us with love and compassion, who satisfies our desires with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagles.
Barbara - The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger for ever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. For as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed - and remembers that we are dust.
Barbara – Go in God’s name and fulfil all God is calling out in you. All this we ask In the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit. Amen
