DESCRIPTION:The Great Easter Vigil is the Church’s traditional Easter se
 rvice\; which Christians have been celebrating since the earliest days. Du
 ring this service the Paschal (Easter) Candle is lit from a camp fire\, wh
 ich symbolizes Christ rising from the darkness of the grave and appearing 
 to the disciples on the lakeside by a camp fire. As the Paschal candle the
 n passes through the darkened Church\, the light of Christ spreads to each
  person in turn. Remaining in semi- darkness we look into ancient scriptur
 e where we will find glimmers of Christ and follow the story of Jesus thro
 ughout time\, just as the disciples did on the road to Emmaus. Then with j
 oyous singing and the building full of light\, we rejoice as we find Jesus
  present with us as we hear the narrative of his glorious Resurrection in 
 the Gospels. This service’s rich symbolism cuts right to the core of our
  humanity and basks in the radiance of the most important event in the his
 tory of humankind. During this service\, those who have undertaken appropr
 iate preparation may be baptised and confirmed.
