DESCRIPTION:The Good Friday service continues with the Liturgy of the Lord
’s Death\, the second part of the three-hour worship. This service is un
ique in the Christian year\, bringing together readings\, music\, reflecti
on\, and prayer to help us understand the meaning of Jesus’ death on the
cross. It begins with a solemn introduction during which the clergy lie f
lat on the floor\, followed by readings. The Passion narrative is then sun
g by the Cathedral Choir.\n\nThe Dean will lead the Liturgy of the Lord’
s Death\, with a final reflection from Canon Neil\, building on those in t
he Meditations.\n\nA large cross is then brought into the Cathedral\, form
ing the centre for music\, prayer\, and silent reflection. There is then t
he opportunity to receive Holy Communion. The service concludes as the cro
ss is carried out and the congregation is invited to venerate it in silenc
e while leaving.\n\nTogether with Meditations at the Cross\, this service
forms a continuous three-hour Good Friday worship\, reflecting the hours J
esus spent on the cross and offering both quiet reflection and shared pray
er.\n\nAll are welcome to stay for all or part of these services.
