DESCRIPTION:A unique opportunity to have a go at bell ringing in St Peter
 ’s Church Tower and celebrate the Coronation!\n\nThe sound of bells is s
 uch a traditional English sound. In Berkhamsted bells have been rung since
  the reign of Henry VIII\, when the bell tower of St Peter’s was complet
 ed around 1535-6. The present ring of eight bells date from 1838\, when th
 e clock was installed. The bells are rung as a call to worship on Sundays\
 , to celebrate weddings and mark national events. Last year\, the bells we
 re rung to commemorate the passing of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
 \n\nNow is your chance to experience this ancient art – come up the towe
 r during the Coronation Street Party on bank holiday Monday between 2pm an
 d 4pm\, discover how the bells work and have a go at ringing yourself.\nNo
  experience is needed – the bell ringers captain will (literally) show y
 ou the ropes! You do need to be fit enough to climb the tower steps\, but 
 whether you are young or old\, ringing is well within the capabilities of 
 most people. Children aged 12 and above are welcome. Entry is free (donati
 ons welcome).
