Welcome to the Parish of Letchworth
Our churches will reopen for public worship on Easter Sunday with all the necessary Covid safe precautions in place. Facemasks, social distancing (2m), and hand sanitizing are all mandatory.
The service pattern will be as follows:
Easter Sunday: 9 am and 2 pm Holy Communion at St Mary’s,
10.30 am Parish Eucharist at St Michael’s (also online)
Easter Wednesday: 9.30 am Holy Communion at St Mary’s
Easter Friday: 12 pm Mass at St Michael’s.
Please remember to book your place in advance by contacting Fr Robert (St Michael’s) or Marlene (St Mary’s). Spaces are limited by social distancing. If there are not enough spaces left on a Sunday, please consider attending a weekday service instead.
We would like to remind those who are clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid-19 to stay at home as much as possible and observe social distancing guidance. Please don't feel obliged to attend church at this time and consider connecting with us online from home if you are able.
Stay safe and well.
We are a welcoming and growing Christian community located in the heart of Letchworth.
Our Parish lies in the southwest of the Garden City and has two churches, of St Michael the Archangel (the parish church) and of St Mary the Virgin, each offering a distinctive style of worship. We are part of the Anglican Diocese of St Albans.
We would love to welcome you at any of our services (please browse these pages for details) taking place in both churches. We also have the Parish Hall available for hire for community events and various regular group activities.
Some of our meetings and social events take place in the Parish Hall located next to St Michael's Church. Currently, due to some ongoing problems with the church building, the 10.30 Sung Parish Mass on a Sunday has been moved to the Hall.
You are welcome to come and join us at any time. If you’d like to find out more, send us a message via this page or get in touch with our Parish Priest, Fr Robert Kozak.
We are looking forward to meeting you soon!
Churches in Benefice
St Mary the Virgin
Welcome to St Mary's, Letchworth Lane.
St Mary's is probably the oldest building in Letchworth and it lies at the heart of the original hamlet of Letchworth. Parts of this medieval church date back to the eleventh century. It is built on the site of an earlier church. It is also one of the smallest churches in the area. It is surrounded by a small but beautiful church yard, where there is also a Garden of Remembrance with a bench for those who want to sit quietly.
The church is open for worship each Wednesday and Sunday morning and we pray in the traditional language. Lots of the Garden City pioneers had a lifelong association with St Mary’s and are at eternal rest there. We also have a very faithful and welcoming congregation with long established family connections.
Come and join us in prayer and friendship.
St Michael the Archangel
Welcome to St Michael's, Broadway.
We worship in an Anglo-Catholic tradition (with singing, incense, bells) and offer a warm welcome to all.
The modern Church of St Michael the Archangel is located in the town center, adjacent to the Broadway Gardens (by the fountain). Unfortunately, our church building is now closed. All services are now taking place in the adjacent Parish Hall (and some are live streamed online). Do join us.
Designed by the distinguished architect, Laurence King, St Michael's was consecrated on 14th November 1967. The outline shape and interior arrangement was inspired by the early principle of a gathered Eucharistic community. Due to some ongoing problems with the building our Sunday morning Parish Mass currently takes place in the Parish Hall.
Come and explore life with God at your parish church.
