 ent in the Christian Calendar. The service consists of readings\, prayers 
 (some of which date back to the fourth or fifth century)\, veneration of t
 he cross (kneeling in front of it to pray)\, as well as receiving Holy Com
 munion\, which was reserved from the Mass of the Lord’s Supper the day b
 efore. \n\nAs we proclaim the Lord’s death on the Cross we remember that
  he is with us\, in certain knowledge of his resurrection from the tomb on
  Easter Day.
