Open the Book

14 Sep 2021, midnight
If you’ve been a parent, or carer, of a primary-age child during the last five years, you will probably have heard them talking about “The Storytellers” at Wrestlingworth lower school! Christ Farthing, one of the storytellers, explains more about the Open the Book project:

We are a team of local Christians, who, hopefully “bring the Bible to life” with Bible story re-enactments taken from “The Lion Storyteller Bible”. We visit the schools in Wrestlingworth and in Dunton.

Open the Book is now a national, charitable organisation under the umbrella of the Bible Society, but was started up by a team in Bedford 22 years ago. There are now thousands of volunteers visiting thousands of primary schools up and down the country.

COVID has meant that for the last 18 months, we have been unable to visit school “in person”, and so we have had to learn new skills. Using Zoom, we have been able to meet remotely and ”film” the Bible stories before sending them in to school. Since the beginning of this year, five stories have been videoed for school to use.

The photo show the team pre-Covid and an image from one of our recent productions.
