St John’s is supporting three Charities this year which, given the COVID19 pandemic, find themselves one way or another at the even sharper end of Need.
FOODWISE is our local charity and they have been cooking away to ensure that really affected families in Guildford get at least one cooked square meal a day. In one recent week they served over 2000 meals.
CHRISTIANS AGAINST POVERTY, a national charity with a big presence in Guildford, are being buffeted by requests for help from people out of work or whose finances are all adrift in these tumultuous times.
COMPASSION is an international Christian charity whose Child Survival Project in Haiti we support. Our contribution is a real help in keeping Covid19 at bay helping with hand washing, transporting mothers in labour to hospital when there is no transport, and offering grocery packs where the food stores are emptied.
Our ability as a church community to offer these charities financial help has been brought to standstill by the lockdown. We are therefore relying on the personal generosity of people, whom we realise are affected themselves, but who recognise that there are others in a worse situation than themselves.
