DESCRIPTION:Join us with family and friends for a festive evening of tradi
 tional English carols\, anthems\, and readings at Helsinki Cathedral.\nThe
  format of this service is based on an order drawn up by Edward Benson\, l
 ater Archbishop of Canterbury but at that time Bishop of Truro\, for use o
 n Christmas Eve (24th December) 1880. Tradition says that he organized a 1
 0 p.m. service in a wooden shed which then served as his cathedral in Trur
 o and that the purpose of the service was to keep men out of the pubs!\nTh
 e original liturgy has since been adapted and used by other churches all o
 ver the world. Numerous Christian denominations have adopted this service\
 , or a variation of this service\, as part of their Christmas celebrations
 . In Finland\, this would be 'Kauneimmat joululaulut'.\nThe best-known ver
 sion\, of course\, is the annual broadcast from King's College\, Cambridge
 ! Our service follows that same order which can also be found in Common Wo
 rship: Times and Seasons of the Church of England. The tradition of this F
 estival in Helsinki by the Anglican Church in Finland dates back\, at leas
 t\, to the 1960s.\nDoors to the cathedral will open at 6.15pm.\nThe servic
 e is led by The Rev'd Dr Mika Pajunen\, Assistant Chaplain at St Nicholas'
  Anglican Church in Helsinki\nThe Service is sung by St Nicholas Chamber C
 hoir\nThe Choir is conducted by Erik Johannes Riekko\nThe organ is played 
 by Kadri Toomoja\n-----\nJoulun sanoma ja laulut -tapahtuman (Festival of 
 Nine Lessons & Carols) pohjana on piispa Edward Bensonin idea jouluaatoksi
  1880. Tarinan mukaan hän järjesti aattoiltana väliaikaisessa tuomiokir
 kossaan laulutilaisuuden\, jonka tarkoituksena oli pitää ihmiset poissa 
 pubeista.\nAlkuperäinen liturgia on sittemmin levinnyt eri kirkkoihin ymp
 äri maailman ja lukuisat kristilliset kirkot ovat ottaneet tämän tapaht
 uman - tai sen muunnelman - osaksi jouluperinteitään. Suomessa tällaine
 n on "Kauneimmat joululaulut".\nParhaiten tunnettu versio on vuosittainen 
 radio- ja tv-lähetys King's Collegesta Cambridgestä. Tämä lauluhetki n
 oudattaa tuota samaa rakennetta\, joka löytyy myös Englannin kirkon juma
 lanpalvelusten kirjasta. Tätä riemullista joulutapahtumaa on vietetty Su
 omen Anglikaanisessa kirkossa ainakin 1960-luvulta\, mutta luultavasti jo
