DESCRIPTION:Joint service with the Methodists followed by an act of rememb
rance outside the church at 10.55AM\n\nA prayer of commemoration for the f
allen\n\nFather of all\, remember your holy promise\,\nand look with love
on all your people\, living and departed.\nOn this day we especially ask t
hat you would hold forever\nall who have suffered during war\, those who r
eturned scarred by warfare\,\nthose who waited anxiously at home\,\nand th
ose who returned wounded\, and disillusioned\;\nthose who mourned\, and th
ose communities that were diminished and suffered loss.\nRemember too thos
e who acted with kindly compassion\,\nthose who bravely risked their own l
ives for their comrades\,\nand those who in the aftermath of war\, worked
tirelessly for a more peaceful world.\nAnd as you remember them\, remember
us\, O Lord\;\ngrant us peace in our time and a longing for the day when
people of every language\, race\, and nation will be brought into the unit
y of Christ’s kingdom.\nThis we ask in the name of the same Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.\n\nPrayers with poppies – suitable for children\nAnyone
can be involved in prayers for remembering\, whether in church or at home
. All you need for this simple prayer is a poppy each.\n\nLook at your pop
py. Poppies are bright and cheerful flowers: give thanks to God for the li
ves of those who have died in war\, remembering all the joy they brought t
o families and friends\, and all the good things they did for their home a
nd their country.\n\nThen look at the red petals: red reminds us of danger
and harm. Ask God to be close to those who are still facing danger each d
ay\, to give courage to the armed forces\, and compassion to all who help
others.\n\nPlace your whole hand over the poppy: poppies are also fragile
and need to be handled gently. God cares for those who are hurting and tho
se who are sad. Ask God to comfort all who are grieving the loss of someon
e they love.\n\nFinally place a finger on the centre of the poppy: ask God
to help you play your part in working for peace in the world.\n\nA prayer
for World peace\nO God of the nations\,\nas we look to that day when you
will gather people\nfrom north and south\, east and west\,\ninto the unity
of your peaceable Kingdom\,\nguide with your just and gentle wisdom all w
ho take counsel\nfor the nations of the world\,\nthat all your people may
spend their days in security\, freedom\, and peace\,\nthrough Jesus Christ
 \, our Lord. Amen.
