DESCRIPTION:Annual Christingle Service with the Duchy School. Christingles
are symbolic objects\, usually oranges\, which represent the world. They
have sweets stuck in them symbolising all of God’s creation\, a red ribb
on around them representing the blood of Jesus who died to save us and in
the top is a candle. The candles are lit during the service symbolising Je
sus bringing light and hope to people living in darkness. Christingles wer
e first used in the Moravian Church in Germany in the 18th century\; the n
ame comes the German ‘Christkindl’ meaning Little Christ Child. And i
n the past when oranges were difficult to get\, swedes were used instead.
