St Mary’s Memorial Flower Festival 19 to 23 July 2021
It has been over a year now since the Covid-19 virus struck the nation and in particular this area covered by the Brixham Mission Community, of which St Mary’s, Higher Brixham, is a part. During this period there have been few people who have been untouched by the virus in some way or other. Many have lost members of the family or friends or neigh- bours. Many others have felt a sense of loss in other ways, their freedom to move, their restriction on visiting loved ones and changes of lifestyle that have had to be made. Many have lost their jobs and struggled to make ends meet. Others have felt their mental health has been put under severe strain. All these things combine to give us a sense of loss.
Perhaps the hardest to bear is the restriction that has been placed on the numbers of people allowed to attend funerals. While this was to help in the fight against the virus, it has meant that we have not always been able to grieve through personal attendance at a service, or in the way in which we would have wanted.
For those who died during the pandemic we will be holding Memorial Services to which families, friends and neighbours will be welcome.
We would like to invite you to visit our Memorial Flower Festival at St Mary’s, which will take place during the week 19 – 23 July. As well as the services the church will be open each day, when there will be an opportunity to reflect on the enormity of it all, while allowing us our own personal memories and thoughts of those we may wish to remember, or the impact that the virus has had on ourselves and those we know and love, in beautiful surroundings enhanced by flower arrangements in memory of all those who passed away since late March 2020.
