As with many country churches, St Mary’s has long had insufficient income for its upkeep. Much urgent external and internal work is needed without it, the future of this very attractive historic church and its surroundings are threatened and the result will be closure.

Fortunately the Drayton Beauchamp Charities Trust has come forward to underwrite a major programme to refurbish the building to create an inviting, warm, well lit space, for social activities as well as for worship This exciting project would include flexible comfortable seating, up to date heating, catering, toilets, sound, lighting and audio/visuals with associated repairs and long term maintenance.

St. Mary’s would then be a “Community Heart” for the village and for others in the neighbourhood an attractive, functional venue for one off or regular events of all kinds socials, concerts, leisure clubs, festivals etc.

However, the Diocese of Oxford needs to see evidence of strong enthusiasm for this project, from the village and from neighbouring communities showing that there will be greater use of the building for a range of activities . We have to make a strong case to get permission for the necessary changes.
