Lent Course+ 2021: Reimagining our World
A Study Course from Candlemas to Pentecost 2021
2 Feb -24 May 2021
We live in a fabulous world of beauty and wonder. Yet is also a place where many people want for even the basics of life. Reimagining our world has been produced by a team from the Anglican Alliance, including our own Dr Elizabeth Perry. The course will help us explore through Bible study on the mission of the Church and how these relate to the international sustainable development goals. The course has yet to be officially launched so ours will be a pilot.
The studies use a pattern called Contextual Bible Study (CBS) that emerged in the midst of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. In a context in which the Bible was used to support apartheid, the Church was challenged to discern instead from the Bible the ‘good news’ that Jesus proclaimed. The approach helps us firstly to reflect on contemporary issues, secondly to reflect on a Bible passage and then to act.
The material will be made available on our website and through an email group every Tuesday starting on the 2nd of February, the Feast of Candlemas. In the week following there will be a WhatsApp discussion forum to reflect in the questions and the issues raised, and then on Monday nights at 6.00pm there will be a one hour Zoom discussion for those who wish to attend. The course has fourteen sessions and will run from Candlemas until Pentecost in May.
If you would like to be part of the group please send me an email ([email protected]) with the subject ‘Reimagining our World’ (this is important) and include your mobile phone number if you would like to be part of the WhatsApp Group.
