This year, Lent is going to have to be celebrated on-line as we continue to experience the need for lockdown and limited personal engagement. To that end, our Lent study group will take place on Zoom with back-up reflections on our Facebook page. It will be led by the Rev Nicky Rawlins and Peter Wareing.
The Lent study will focus around the meditations in Rowan Williams’ book ‘Candles in the Dark: Faith, Hope and Love in a time of Pandemic.’
The group will be held via Zoom at 7.30pm to 8.30 pm on the following dates:
· Thursday, 18 February
· Thursday 25 February
· Thursday 4 March
· Friday 12 March
· Thursday 18 March
· Thursday 25 March.
There will be a follow-up session after Easter, date to be confirmed.
The book is not a specific Lent study but rather is a series of short meditations on issues that Rev Rowan Williams encountered during last year. I will be using some, not all, of the meditations as a focus for our study and will also be bringing in Biblical references where appropriate. We will read the meditation and think about a series of questions that arise out of it and the accompanying Bible passage, finishing with a time of prayer. As you will need to read the meditation prior to the group meeting, it would be helpful if you can buy the book although if necessary, I may be able to scan in the relevant passages and email them to you. The book is available on Amazon and through other Christian retailers such as Eden and Aslan books, price generally varying between £7 and £8 depending on your retailer.
As a church, we have not had much opportunity recently to join together in study and prayer so if you are able to join with this group, it will contribute greatly to our spiritual life as a church
