Father Garry Jenkins SSC, who retired last Autumn after a long incumbency at the Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Brentwood, Essex (Diocese of Chelmsford), was recently licensed by Bishop Simon as our priest-in-charge. He was officially welcomed by Archdeacon Andrew and the Bishop of Richborough on Tuesday 30th April, at 730pm, within the context of a Mass celebrating the Feast of St Mark the Evangelist.
A large congregation of friends, family, and local community representatives, as well as a a goodly number of St Luke's Usual Suspects, and from other local churches (including the Imam of the neighbouring Mosque) was present to mark this important occasion in the life of our little back-street parish.
Father Jenkins has great experience as a pastor, and parish priest, and we look forward to his encouragement and leadership. Please pray for him, as he takes up this new responsibility, and for our small (but growing!) congregation, as we continue to keep the rumour of God alive in this corner of Medway. ( The name of the photographer is not known. Please let the Editor know if acknowledgement is required!).
