August 2021 Notices

25 Aug 2021, 10 a.m.

I hope all of you who managed to get a break found it refreshing.

Firstly and most important we look forward to welcoming Rev Nikki Rawlins to our communities later in the Autumn. Nikki has just finished serving her curacy at St Augustine’s and will be joining us later in the Autumn.

St Mary’s PCC met on 18th August to consider ways forward for reopening the church while keeping people as safe as possible in these strange times. St Barnabas have decided to follow these rules also. The following has been decided.

Numbers. The restrictions on numbers attending have been lifted, but we are asking people to wear masks while inside our buildings. Temperature checks will take place at the doors.

Singing From 29th August we will be singing hymns, led by the choir in St Mary’s. With the exception of the choir who will be very socially distanced everyone MUST wear masks while singing.

Sunday Coffee This can be resumed but using strict hygiene rules which will be published. I suggest St Barnabas have coffee before the service as it makes the morning very late. BUT ONLY if people are willing to be put on a rota to do it once a month. Elizabeth and Peter can’t add that to their already long list of duties.

Weekday Services and meetings The Wednesday Communion is already taking place at St Mary’s at 10am, St Barnabas Thursday communion will recommence on Thursday 9th September at 10am.

It will be in St Mary’s Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri mornings and St Barnabas Thurs mornings. It will also be broadcast on a zoom link for those who join us remotely.

· From 6th September the Monday Coffee morning will recommence and from Tuesday 7th September the Baptists two weekly meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays will start again.

· St Barnabas Wednesday club will recommence on Wednesday 22nd September at 2pm and for the first few weeks will be fortnightly.

All other groups who meet are going to be allowed to start meeting again using the same arrangements for cleaning and Hygiene.

WHICH leads me to last and probably the one of the most important. CLEANING! At St Mary’s we have a small and dedicated band of cleaners. We cannot expect them to take on all the extra cleaning for example after a Sunday service for a baptism or a Monday coffee morning. Or on a Saturday after a wedding in preparation for Sunday. The problem is more acute at St Mary’s as the building is used so much but it will also have to be addressed at St Barnabas. PLEASE if you can help in any way let us know.

All these things may have to change depending on infections and variants, but for now enjoy being together and KEEP SAFE!
