Church of England A Church Near You

FAQs

What is A Church Near You?

A Church Near You is the Church of England’s tool for finding local churches that offer the features and facilities you might be looking for, such as foodbanks, wheelchair access or a spire. All our 16,000 churches and cathedrals in England and across the Diocese in Europe and 4,700 Church schools are listed on the website. Churches can log in and edit their information, to include their service times, event information and other details about the parish.

Logging in and accounts

Only those who have responsibility for editing a parish or multiple parishes need to log in to A Church Near You. Those searching for churches do not need to log in. You can log in here. If you have been selected to be one of your church's ACNY editors, you will need to request access to edit your church's account. You will need to search for the church you are responsible for, select “Edit this church” from the list of tabs on the left-hand side and register for a new Editor account. You will then need to log in to an account and request access to edit the church’s entry. You will be asked to provide a message about your application. This will then be approved by the vicar who leads your church.

I’m a member of the clergy with responsibility for a church, how do I log in?
Clergy will be automatically granted administrative rights for a church using the credentials held by Crockford’s. Remember to use the same email address. Once you’ve created this account and logged in, you will be able to accept up to five editors from your church to help keep the site up to date. You can accept these requests by clicking on the “Manage editors” tab on the left hand side.

I’m a member of the clergy with responsibility for a church, but my request to become the admin has not been automatically accepted?
This is usually because you have not provided Crockford's with your email address. You can update your Crockford entry here. It will take up to seven days for this information to added to ACNY, and then you can request admin access again by visiting your church's ACNY profile on the site.

What do I do if my church is in an interregnum?
Please use the contact form and we will get in touch to arrange access to your ACNY page.

I can no longer log in
If you have not logged into A Church Near You at some point during the last 12 months, your account may have been deleted.

Can a church have more than one editor?

I have left the church I edit
The church’s vicar, who will be the administrator, will be able to remove you as an editor of the church.

Technical and data problems

What do I do if our church or parish name is wrong, missing, in the wrong benefice etc?
If you notice data on your profile that is incorrect, you are able to report this directly by visiting your profile, clicking on the “More information” tab on the left-hand side and clicking the box that says: “Report a problem”.

Church/parish boundary missing or wrong
If you notice that the parish boundary information on your profile is incorrect, you are able to report this directly by visiting your profile, clicking on the “More information” tab on the left hand side and clicking the box that says: “Report a problem”.

'Related churches' section is wrong
Sometimes you may find that the information about the other churches in your parish or benefice is not listed correctly. This can often happen as a result of a Pastoral Reorganisation. We regularly update our data on A Church Near You, which corrects any
out-of- date links about other church and parish boundaries. This means the information should be corrected within a month. However, if you can’t wait that long, or your information has not been updated within this period, please do get in touch to report the problem by using the “Report a problem” box.
