St Mary Islington's spireSoul in the City 1

Prayers

St Mary's is one of the Church of England's most historic parishes. Today we're a church of different people, a community of all ages, living out our calling to follow Jesus and to serve God in the midst of Islington.   Our church is at the heart of Upper Street, between Angel and Highbury Corner and we love our exciting parish. But don't think that we're trying to be just another stylish venue.   We're here for people. For all the people who live, work, and enjoy themselves in our neighbourhood, offering them the opportunity to connect with God in a busy world.
To get the full picture, become part of the story yourself. Contact, connect, discover and make a difference.

Candlelit Carols
Our most popular service of the year. Each person is given a candle and at 6pm the church falls into darkness, except for hundreds of tiny flames around the church. Slowly, the congregation's four hundred candles are lit and our classical choir leads us in celebration of the Christmas story through Bible readings and song. Choir conductor: Jakub Tomasek Organist: Robert Patterson This year's congregational carols are: O come, all ye faithful; Once in royal David's city; On Christmas night all Christians sing; Ding Dong! Merrily on high; Silent night; Hark the herald angels sing. The choir programme is: Jesus Christ the apple tree; Huron carol; Coventry carol; Cantate Domino (Pitoni); There is no rose. Please come early as the church is usually very full, with some of the congregation standing. This service isn't the most suitable for young children either. Why not bring them to the Big Family Carols service instead?
