It is thought that the present church was built in the early 14th century, and was preceded by at least two others. The church is of the Decorated English period, built mainly of flint, with an imposing tower which stands 95' (29 m) high.

There is a good car park in front of the church. St Mary's has six bells, tenor weight 15 cwt.

Families are always welcome to all of the services, but those more suited to their needs have been specially highlighted.

Buxhall is part of a benefice also comprising Great Finborough, Harleston, Onehouse and Shelland. At the moment we are interregnum but we have a team of three Ordained Local Ministers and three Lay Readers.
