The Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession

The Sacrament of Reconciliation – Confession

This is a sacrament that many people think is the sole preserve of the Roman Catholic Church but the reality is that it is part of the tradition of the Church of England which is particularly encouraged in the Book of Common Prayer.

Even those who are careful in preparing themselves through an examination of conscience can sometimes find it difficult to accept that they are truly forgiven.

We may feel uneasy about telling the priest about our sins and failings, but this is done under the “seal of the confession”, which means it is completely confidential. The great value of sacramental confession is that we can receive that assurance of God’s mercy when we hear the priest acting as God’s channel of mercy, declare of our Father’s forgiveness in the words of the absolution

If you would like to know more about this valuable gift please do not hesitate to ask for more information as we will be able to offer advice or suitable reading material to help you.

Confessions will be heard every Tuesday before Mass at 6.30 pm or by appointment.
