About Us

We are a warm and welcoming church community, meeting each Sunday at 8.30am and each Wednesday at 10.30am for Holy Communion. Our church is open daily for visitors between 10am and 4pm.

Our churchyard offers a quiet and peaceful outdoor space for sanctuary and contemplation at any time. We are in the process of renewing our grounds as nature-friendly areas as part of our Eco church commitment.

We are currently a small and committed congregation, very happy to welcome new members, those looking or seeking something, the curious, or one-off visitors - all welcome!

Our services tend to the quieter side, using Church of England liturgy and prayer for worship and contemplation with different ministers preaching on different weeks. We have tea and coffee after our services, for fellowship and social contact - we think you will find us a friendly bunch!

We are part of Nether with Upper Poppleton Parish and, as such, have many joint events and services with All Saints' in Upper Poppleton and social events at our hall, All Saints' Hall. Both Poppleton churches share their Vicar, Rev'd. Simon Biddlestone, with Holy Redeemer church in Acomb.

St. Everilda's Church is right at the end of Church Lane, Nether Poppleton. It is a lovely gem of a church, very popular for weddings due to its location and natural beauty. The stained glass in the eastern window is of late 13th Century and early 14th Century. There are some monumental effigies in the church to members of Archbishop Hutton's family, some of whom resided in Poppleton. But it also has some modern features, such as under seat heating - most welcome on a frosty morning! - and a new kitchen and toilet extension, added in 2014. If you are curious, why not come along and see for yourself?
