About Us

We are a caring, open and engaged Church of England congregation valuing good preaching and the weekly Sacrament. We love to explore how our faith plays out in real life. Many of us attend house groups, where what we heard on Sunday is further discussed. We value honesty and informality in our life together, but also desire to go deeper with God in our Sunday worship and in our devotional life. We are an Eco Church and socially engaged. We are also serious about keeping action and contemplation in balance.

We are on the east side of Reading - one mile away from the centre, in the middle of mixed housing, with offices, shops, main roads, railways and a canal. In the late 1970’s two closely linked parish churches, St John’s and St Stephen’s, joined with the local Church of England primary school to become the Parish Centre. St Stephen’s church was demolished and St John’s has been taken over by the Polish Roman Catholic community.

The parish is in an urban priority area and has about 2,800 flats and houses in 3 main areas.

Accommodation is increasing in the parish with some new flats and a large housing development.

Visitors are most welcome to join us in Church on any Sunday; or at the cafe on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Cafe Communion is a short informal service of Holy Communion o Thursdays at 10.30. A Discussion group for people exploring the intersection of life and faith and who need a safe space to explore what they believe, is on Wednesdays at 10.30.
