About Us

We are a warm and welcoming church community, used to welcoming tourists during the summer months as well as a stable congregation in winter.

Gilling West is the largest community in the Holmedale Benefice and has a long history going back to Saxon times when it was the capital of the kingdom of Diera, it is mentioned in the Domesday Book and parts of St Agatha’s date back to this period. Architecturally and historically the interior reflects the changes that have taken place over the years, creating a unique atmosphere of peace and antiquity which contributes to the church’s popularity as a wedding venue.

The predominant style of worship is Church of England “Common Worship”.

The church is open every day during the summer months.

Toilet facilities are available (accessed through the vestry) and there is a children’s play area at the back of the church. Parking is available on the access road to the church as well as off the main road near the gates and should this be inadequate roadside parking is available.
