Supporting Your Parish Church

St Helen’s Church, Berrick Salome

A Beautiful Place

St Helen’s Church was built in the 12th Century as a place of worship for the people of Berrick Prior, Berrick Salome, Roke and Rokemarsh. It remains the most beautiful building in the Parish and represents the centre of worship, prayers and generosity. Through local support and hard work our Church continues to be a special place at the heart of our community.

A Quiet Place

In our busier, noisier times St Helen’s still provides a place where people find peace and quietness. The church building is open every day so that parishioners and visitors alike have a place to go when they need to talk with God:

- Whether to give thanks for the safe delivery of a new child or for recovery from a difficult operation

- Whether to pray for a sick friend or family member or when life seems to be going wrong

A Public Place

Through Baptism we regularly welcome new members to our Church and community. Weddings are a public witness of the marriage vows exchanged between two people. Services of Blessing are used to celebrate anniversaries of long-married couples. Funerals celebrate the life and work of parishioners who have departed this life.

A Place of Rest

Our churchyard is a beautiful place of rest for the departed. Generations of Berrick Prior, Berrick Salome, Roke and Rokemarsh villagers have been buried here in this place and their families continue to visit their graves.

How Can You Help?

The costs of maintaining St Helen’s as a working church for our village community are approximately £600 per week. As with many churches up and down the country we have been seeing a decline in income, especially with our lives and habits having been affected by coronavirus restrictions. During 2020 almost all of the village community activities that would normally have contributed to the church’s running costs had to be cancelled...

Fortunately it doesn’t take very much money to make a difference, and regular donations, however small, can really help. If you are able to make a donation you will be providing a valuable contribution to the future of St Helen’s in our village community.
