About Us

St Andrew's Church is in the village of Great Durnford in the beautiful Woodford Valley. It is one of the three churches of the united parish of Woodford Valley with Archers Gate. We work as one parish, with the services and congregation moving between the churches.

We aim to be the friendly spiritual heart of our community, and worship in both old and new forms. All are welcome here. Our central service is the weekly Eucharist (Communion) which is sung (well and with enthusiasm!). As well as Sunday services we have a regular mid-week communion and special services and events such as Harvest, Rogation, a Passover meal, Lent and Advent groups. We have strong links with the two primary schools in the parish. Once a month we have Messy Church - a form of church for children and adults that involves creativity, celebration and a shared meal - at Archers Gate.

We are conscious that we are part of the worldwide body of Christ – a body that is often hurting. As well as praying regularly for our world, we support Christian Aid and USPG – amongst other charities - and promote Fairtrade. We also collect food items for the Trussell Trust, our local food bank. We have an active Mothers’ Union group (contrary to popular belief, the Mothers’ Union is one of the most globally switched on organizations!)

For baptisms and weddings please contact the Vicar or Parish Administrator on 01722 782310.

We sensitively engage with people who have been divorced who would like to explore marrying in church.
