St John the Evangelist Church Tatworth, Somerset

 ______________________________________________________________________________

St John the Evangelist Church and Church Hall,Waterlake Road, Tatworth, TA20 2NZ
St John's is the local Parish Church covering Tatworth, South Chard, Perry Street, Chard Junction, Chilson and Chilson Common.

St John's is a friendly welcoming Church which is opened every day between 10am and 4pm and everyone is welcome to come into Church to pray, light a candle, sit quietly and take photographs as well as sitting in the grounds of the Church.

The Church was built as a chapel of ease for Chard in 1851. The foundation stone was laid in June 1851and the consecration took place on Tuesday, September 9th, 1851 by the Bishop of Jamaica (as the Bishop of Bath and Wells was unable to attend owing to illness)

Tatworth and Forton were part of the ecclesiastical parish of Chard from 1851 when the church was built until 18 September 1866 when St John's  became the parish church of Tatworth, while Forton remains within Chard ecclesiastical parish.

On 18 September 2016 it was 150th anniversary of St John's becoming the Parish Church of an independent parish.

ST. JOHN’S SUMMER OPEN GARDENS

I would like to thank all the Parishioners and many Residents  for the wonderful success in  raising a total of £572.40 for St Johns Church.  Incredible!!. When I made the decision to try an Open Gardens Fund Raising ,I had no idea how it would pan out ,but it did ,and a little more raised than was expected so  a big well done and thank you to you all  for your very generous support and contributions . May I take the opportunity of thanking the hardworking  hosts ,Mary and Russ Wardell (£135) ,Roger and Rev Judith (£165),Pam Arnold (£130) and a final special thank you to Nan Austin (£142.40) who enabled us to achieve that  very respectable total fund.

I hope my successor next year will have a good repeat performance and once again Pam and I appreciate the warmth and support we have received from you all in this very enjoyable Open Gardens project. Best wishes again and thank you all . Stop press—we have received an anonymous donation to bring the amount up to £600!!!!

Our prayers encircle not just friends from our Church or village but anyone in need. The leader chooses a short bible reading and then the prayer lists are updated to see how those suffering are progressing. We include prayers for other specific needs but our main aim is to pray for the Lord's leading hand on all the sick. The informal meetings last about an hour and either Rev Terri Boyland or I lead our time together. There are usually six of us who meet regularly but all are warmly welcomed should they wish to join us; we finish with tea or coffee and refreshments and a chat. The group meets at 2pm at my home 4 Abbey Close. If you know of anyone in need of prayer then please let me know. My phone number is 01460 221048

Tatworth Wives Group
This coming year (2017) we are supporting South West Children's Hospice as we raise funds for local charities as well as for the Church. We meet every month for a talk or a film show from a guest speaker and we hold a sales table with a theme e.g. toiletries, stationery, bric-a-brac and a Christmas Stall The committee members work very hard to make things interesting by holding an open house cream tea or coffee morning in a garden and Jane Grant organises a Christmas Fayre at her house when she is able. Thanks to all the committee for their invaluable assistance and to those members who gave their time and help at the summer Fete and Christmas Bazaar; as well as thanks to the coffee and tea makers at each meeting. We meet at 7.30pm in the Church Room on the first Thursday of each month and welcome visitors to any of our gatherings. we meet at 2.30pm during the winter months
