In a very exciting move, it was announced at masses this morning that our Curate, Fr Jordan McDermott, is to be the next Rector of Eccleston and Charnock Richard, in the Deanery of Chorley. He will be Inducted on Monday 10 June at a service at St Mary's Eccleston at 7.30 pm. Fr Jordan has been working with us in the Parish of the Good Shepherd since his ordination as Deacon in 2021. He was signed off as having finished his Curacy earlier this year. Over these three years, he has worked hard with Fr David and the Wardens and PCCs of the former parishes to seek to share the love of the Gospel with the people of our Parish. He has forged good links with all four of the Church schools within our parish, and has been committed to working with children and young people. As a parish we have benefitted from his commitment to the people of Accrington, his engaging preaching style and his willingness to get stuck in with any event that has been taking place. In particular he had the experience of leading the parish during Fr David's recent sabbatical, which he did with his usual commitment and good humour. It is true to say that we will miss Fr Jordan in the Parish of the Good Shepherd, but we wish him and Becky well as they prepare for their move. Please keep them, and the parishes of Eccleston and Charnock Richard in your prayers in the weeks ahead.Fr Jordan's last Sunday in the Parish of the Good Shepherd will Sunday 19 May, Pentecost Sunday. This will be marked by a service at St Andrew's Church at 4.00 pm, where we will have the opportunity to say farewell to him as a parish. All members of the parish community are invited! Please put the date in the diary, so that we can give him a good Accrington sendoff!

Following the mass for the Annunciation, members of the congregations of the Parish of the Good Shepherd met to elect Churchwardens, PCC members and Deanery Synod representatives as we began our life as a new united parish. Fr David had reminded us during the homily at mass that Mary was stepping into the unknown when she replied to the Angel Gabriel with the words, 'Let it be to me according to your word.' As a new united parish there is a sense in which we are stepping into the unknown as we look to the future. We can do that with confidence if we, like Mary, place our trust in the God who saves, who sends his Son to be born as a human being, to die on the cross, and to overcome the power of death through his glorious resurrection, which we celebrated just over a week ago. After electing two churchwardens at the Annual Meeting of Parishioners, the special meeting received the Annual Reports from the three former PCCs of St Andrew, St Mary Magdalen and St Peter, before moving to the election of representatives of the laity and Deanery Synod members, with good representation from both congregations in our parish. Together with the clergy, these people will form our Parochial Church Council for the coming year. Please find the results sheet in the link, and pray for each of our PCC members as they take up their responsibilities. At the end of the meeting, a new logo and branding for our parish was introduced to parishioners, which has been developed with the support of a graphic designer, incorporating a number of features relating to our local area and the hope and expectation that God will do great things with and through us as we move forward. Look out for this new branding in the near future!
